2026 edition: The Next Frontier — Sustainable Project Leadership

The 2026 edition has ended. It was held on Friday, 25 September 2026, at the Sheraton Bucharest Hotel, entirely in English. The 2027 edition will be announced on this page.

The 2026 edition, in short

The PMI Romania Chapter Annual Conference 2026 was held on Friday, 25 September 2026, at the Sheraton Bucharest Hotel, in English, under the theme „The Next Frontier: Sustainable Project Leadership”. More than 100 project managers, sponsors and community members attended. The day had three international keynotes — Pat Lucey, Lysa Morrison and Sascha D. Kasper — an industry panel moderated by Cristina Niculescu, two parallel hands-on workshops, the launch of the third volume in the chapter’s children’s book series, and the national awards for the best sustainability projects delivered in Romania. Attendees earned 7 accredited PDUs and a certificate of attendance issued by PMI Romania Chapter.

Who is organising this

PMI Romania Chapter is the official Romanian chapter of the Project Management Institute. We are a non-profit run entirely by volunteers, with 1,336 active members, of whom 873 hold the PMP® credential. We have been running this conference, monthly webinars, a mentoring programme and a student club since 2002.

We are not a conference business. Nobody here is paid, and the ticket price covers the venue, the speakers and the catering.

Why this theme, and why now

Sustainability has stopped being a report appended at the end of a project. PMI now treats it as a knowledge area in its own right, one that cuts across cost, risk, schedule, quality and delivered value, with the same rigour as the others.

• A new discipline

  The eleventh knowledge area

  No longer an environmental chapter glued to the end. It sits inside the same decisions as budget and deadlines.

• Decision frame

  People, planet, profit

  The project manager no longer balances scope, time and cost alone, but also the effect on people, the effect on the environment, and value over the long run.

• The timing

  The profession is being rewritten now

  As of 5 June 2026, GPM-b became the CSPP™ credential, and the PMI-GPM standards reached version 4.0. Whoever understands the shift now will not be catching up three years from now.

Who spoke in 2026

All three travelled in from abroad, which is why their sessions ran in English. The day was hosted by Ovidiu Oltean, the panel was moderated by Cristina Niculescu, and the two workshops were run by Aylin Kaptan and Pat Lucey.

How the day went

It all happened at the Sheraton Bucharest, from the opening to the closing drinks. The order was deliberate: we started from the global picture, moved through adaptability and industry practice, went hands-on in the workshops, and closed by recognising projects that actually did something.

The 2027 edition

PMI Romania Chapter runs the annual conference of the Romanian project management community. The 2026 edition was the most recent one.

The 2026 edition ended on 25 September 2026. Tickets are no longer on sale. The date and theme of the 2027 edition will be announced on this page; if you would like to hear first, write to office@pmi.ro and we will let you know when registration opens. We answer in English.
